About Terry

Even in his youth Terry Anderson was found behind a camera. Growing up in Fairmont, Minnesota he always enjoyed an interest in art and photography. He pursued both in college when he began his professional career as a portrait photographer. On January 1, 1978, he moved to Minneapolis with his new wife, Cindy, and continued his career in photography when he began working for Glen and Sue Silker the following day. Coincidentally, Terry and Glen were both born and raised in Fairmont, graduating from the same high school 18 years apart.

Terry learned the commercial side of photography from Glen and Sue. As the business grew, Terry was a vital part of that success. He was the chosen successor when the Silkers retired in 1992 and the industry moved away from film to a new digital medium. He embraced the change and excelled. The business was sold and renamed Terry Anderson Photography. Over the years, the studio flourished and great relationships were developed. Terry was an artist with a camera, but never let a lens distance himself from people. He always employed his sense of humor and personable nature to set people at ease and make them smile. His heart was big and kind allowing him to see and capture the beauty of the world in his pictures. The career was perfect for Terry. He loved his work and his clients and treated them with respect, care and consideration.

On the morning of February 23, 2009, a bright crisp day without a hint of foreboding, Terry Anderson died as suddenly as the clicking off of lights. His passing slammed the hearts of so many. The brightness on the day of his funeral was fitting for the man who loved light.

To honor Terry's professional legacy a scholarship for young photographers has been established in his name. An annual golf tournament, a sport loved passionately by Terry, will support the funding of the scholarships and other worthwhile organizations such as the American Heart Association.
